Using A Career Coach

Many people find themselves needing assistance when they become suddenly unemployed. The reason for this is the uncertainty that comes with the loss of a job. What a career coach can bring to the table for anyone who is unemployed is a partner and a resource in their efforts to secure a new career opportunity.

A career coach often will work with both the recent college graduate as well as with seasoned employees. What the career coach's role is, is to help the individual seek out new opportunities through devising job search strategies and techniques as well as being the one who holds the person accountable during the job search process.

Resume and Cover Letter Review

One of first things a career coach will do will be to review the client's resume and cover letter to ensure that these documents are a true reflection of who they are as far as skill sets and capabilities. A career coach will look at your resume and identify the best way to present this information in writing so it is concise, clear and sells the client's skills and background in the best possible way.

Practice Interviews

Probably the most important role that a career coach can play with any individual, who is seeking employment, is to serve as a practice partner in learning how to interview correctly. I can't tell you how many times I have interviewed people who walked into my office and have totally blown their interview by being overly arrogant or not being able to answer basic interview questions in a professional manner. This can be overcome by practicing basic interview questions with a career coach. By learning how to answer interview questions in a professional, polished and positive manner through the coaching and mentoring of a career coach can greatly enhance one's ability to be successful during the interview process.

Plot Out a Career Path

Many younger people find themselves unsure of how to get from point A, to point B, to point C in their respective career. What a career coach will do is sit with the young person and determine various milestones that they want to achieve within their career within a certain set period of time. By identifying educational expectations as well as essential professional experiences required of a career that are tied to various growth stages of this very career, the career coach can establish a solid timeline and strategy within this timeline to go from point A to point C; thus leading the eventual career success!

For the Unemployed

If a career coach is working with an individual who is unemployed they will put together a strategy to find a solid career position that fits the needs of the particular individual. This strategy will incorporate all the necessary steps and processes to get the individual out in front of perspective employers in the hopes of gaining a new career position in the shortest period of time.

Partner and Coach

What I consider to be the most important aspect of any career coach's job is to be both a partner and coach to the client they are servicing. When one is looking for a new job it can be a very depressing experience, as rejection and self-doubt are constant issues that they will be dealing with. What a career coach brings to the table is positive coaching and feedback to any situation that the individual may encounter during their job search. It is this coaching and feedback that provides an opportunity for the individual to learn from their mistakes and to grow from these experiences to enable them to be more successful in their job search. By partnering up with a career coach, an unemployed person can feel that they are not going into this job search process alone but actually have a partner who is looking out for their best interest and will help guide them to locating and selecting the best possible career opportunity with the least amount of obstacles to overcome.

What Exactly IS a Career Coach Anyways?

I've come to find that the term 'Career Coach' somewhat mystifies people. I mean, to be honest, sometimes when I tell people that "I am a Career Coach," their eyes glaze over. And I often get a follow-up question like: So you're someone who places people within companies? Mmmm - not exactly.

Overall, the term 'coaching' has become muddled. There are a lot of life coaches, career coaches, spiritual coaches, business coaches, executive coaches, sports coaches, etc., etc. So, let's look at the actual definition of 'coach' from dictionary.com (I took out the definitions related to traveling coach on airplanes, stage coaches for horses, etc.):

-noun...

5. a person who trains an athlete or a team of athletes: a football coach.

6. a private tutor who prepares a student for an examination....

-verb (used with object)

12. to give instruction or advice to in the capacity of a coach; instruct: She has coached the present tennis champion....

No wonder people are confused! So, here is my definition of a 'coach' operating in a business or life capacity of some sort: A coach is someone who has the experience and tools to guide you through a process to achieve your ultimate goal(s).

So, then, what the heck is a Career Coach? A Career Coach is someone to help you identify and achieve your most ideal career opportunity or 'next step' in your career. A Career Coach serves as an advisor, a mentor, a trainer, and sometimes a consultant, to get you unstuck, thriving, happy, successful, and so on, in your career.

Some people use a Career Coach while employed and some are unemployed. Some people focus on career options, career path, career transition, etc. Some people just want to be happier and more successful. Some want help in 'getting to the next level.' And some are unemployed and want help with true job search strategy techniques for efficient job search results.

Let's face it. You spend a lot of time in your career. For most of you reading this, the majority of your waking hours are spent at work and in your career. Professionals who invest in themselves by using a Career Coaching are saying, "I want more. I want something better. I want the next step. I want tools and strategies for accomplishing my big dreams. I'm tired of delaying what's next for me. Let's get going." They're willing to do whatever it takes to 'get more.'

Some people think you have to be completely lost or miserable to work with a Career Coach but I find it's just like anything else... the longer you are just "okay" or "fine" or "so so" with your career, the longer you delay true success, happiness, and fulfillment. In fact, many of my clients come to me with a great amount of success under their belt. But still, they've reached a point where something is missing for them and they want to get on with figuring it out.

Whether employed or unemployed, most people can benefit from a Career Coach yet most people will never use one. Those who use one are rarely disappointed and are often relieved to get to that next piece on their success path.

Choose a Great Career Coach For Your Successful Career Change

Have you reached a point in your career life where everything seems to go wrong? Do you struggle to find a purpose in your work? Are you hoping for a career boost? Are you planning on a change or coping with job loss?

If you answered yes to any one of these questions, then you definitely need a career coach. Your coach is someone who can give you guidance and mentorship as you make work-related decisions. He or she can help you unleash your worklife potential. A good career coach is someone who can give you all the assistance you need as you start your career transition or move up the corporate ladder.

How to choose your career coach

Looking for a good coach who can best support your passion to succeed is quite a difficult task. Many coaches claim expertise but you have to scrutinize their services and competencies to make sure that you are getting the right advice for your career development. A coach should have specific career development University qualifications. Human resource professionals are skilled at HR matters, and recruitment professionals are wonderful in recruiting the right person for a job, but neither of these disciplines is the same as career development. Be sure you are getting the right help for your need.

Don't be baffled by great marketing! Look beyond the enticing words and the alluring promises to find out what they are really offering.

You must also consider the type of person you want to work with. Is there a particular coaching style that you expect from your career mentor? Finally, learn if there are any guarantees that the coaching company offers in case you aren't satisfied with the service that you are getting from your coach.

Having a career coach to help you out as you go through a major career process suggests that you are totally serious about becoming successful. Your career coach will help you come up with effective career change strategies and will assist you as you recognise your strengths, skills and interests so that you can determine the kind of work that will suit you best. Your coach will also provide you with great suggestions on how you can successfully achieve your dream career.

Your mentor will provide regular personalised coaching, provide you with feedback and will give you a (virtual) pat on the back for every successful step taken. He or she will help you find solutions to career-related issues you may face. You should look for a career coach who is knowledgeable and committed to helping you succeed in your career plans. People who work with great mentors benefit from the mentor's professional expertise. Once you have the right coach to help you, you are sure to gain great advantage from his or her experience as you move forward and reach your career goals.

Career Change: It's Time for a Professional Career Coach

Are you at a point in your career where you feel bored and you don't find your work meaningful and rewarding anymore? Are you looking for a career boost? Are you contemplating a career change or recovering from job loss?

You need a career coach. A career coach is someone to guide and mentor you through his or her professional career advice. He or she is someone who can help you achieve your worklife potential. A great coach will give you the boost you need, whether you are just starting your job search or when you're moving up the corporate ladder.

Tips for wisely choosing your career coach:

Your career coach should be highly qualified in career development. You wouldn't spend money with an accountant who wasn't qualified in accountancy, would you? Specific career development University qualifications should be expected. HR people are good at HR, and recruitment people are good at recruitment, but neither of those disciplines are the same as career development....Buyer beware!

Don't be bamboozled by great marketing. Look beyond the smoke screen of expert marketing to see what substance is really being offered by the coaching company.....Again, buyer beware!

Consider the sort of person you like to work with. What style of coaching is going to suit you best?

Is there any sort of guarantee offered in case you aren't happy with the help you are getting from your career coach?

Engaging a career coach suggests that you are serious about achieving success in your worklife. Your career coach will help you plan and carry out effective strategies and help you avoid mistakes. They will assist you to recognise your skills, talents, and interests to help you determine all the aspects of work which will best suit you. You will be assisted with helpful suggestions on how you can achieve your dream career successfully.

As you begin your career transition, you will receive regular one-on-one coaching. Your career coach will provide you with feedback, constant encouragement and suggestions. A good career coach will help you look for the best solutions to career-related problems. They will also share contemporary strategies to help you organise your thoughts so that you can make wise career decisions.

A good career coach is someone knowledgeable and committed to helping you succeed in your career plans. People who work with career coaches benefit greatly from their coach's professional experience. You will gain immeasurable advantage from their experience as you move forward and reach your career goals.

Career Search - Using A Career Coach Can Really Add Up In Your Career Transition

Are you afraid of the career change conversation with your family, friends, coworkers etc? Does it seem like as soon as you decide to make a positive change, the whole world turns against you and tells you why you can't do it, that it's not possible or something else that's not very encouraging?

One of the biggest challenges that people in career transition face is trying to convince their families, friends, coworkers and the people who know them best, that change is a good thing. At a time when everything is in flux, it's tough for us to reassure people we are headed on the path to success despite any obstacles which may surface along the way. We may even be uncertain ourselves! And because we frequently experience the most resistance to our ideas from the people who mean the most to us, it can FEEL like our core support system is caving in. But don't worry, it's not!

Finding a mentor, coach or someone who has "been there" can be a huge asset for your career search.

Because we are often met with resistance, hit with frightening and discouraging "rumors" about the career marketing or industry of our choosing, we can feel like the wind was just knocked out of us. Finding a career can be scary and isolating. This is not a healthy way to feel when trying to break out of established ruts and make a motion for improvement in our careers.

For this reason, if you're serious about finding a new job that has you springing out of bed each morning, you'll want to invest in a career coach, or career counselor. Many people who decide to make a bold move in their career, start up their own business or return to school to learn a new skill or trade, do so with the help of a career coach or counselor. A career coach can give much needed practical advice and guidance, while offering an objective viewpoint on your personal situation.

A career coach can help you:

Create and implement a transition plan
Set realistic reachable goals
Network effectively and efficiently
Identify the career path you want
Push gremlins aside and step out of the box and your comfort zone
Overcome obstacles
Find a career that's right for you (not what other's think is right for you)
How do you find support?

Professional support from a career coach or career counselor is usually the best place to start. They have the experience and success rates of helping people who have been in your shoes. There are a wide range of career coaches/counselors out there so make sure when you are looking for one to do your homework. Here are some sample questions:

How long have you been a coach?
What is your success rate?
Do you have references I can speak with? (If they are hesitant about this one that is not a good sign)
Do you offer a complimentary consultation where I can get to know you and your style to see if we'd be a fit?
How long does this process usually take?
It isn't always possible to afford a career coach, especially when you are in transition. Other options include finding a career coach who might offer group coaching, which is cheaper. Can you coach with a buddy and split the price? If those options still don't fit your budget, the next step is to try to find someone you know of you can point you in the right direction.

Is there someone in your life who you admire because they didn't follow the status quo, made their own way or just seem to be living out an amazingly full and satisfying life and career? Maybe you have a friend, relative, or acquaintance who started their own business or managed to interweave creativity and flexibility into their professional life in a way that stands out from the crowd. Now is a perfect time to ask for advice and guidance from that person, listen to their story, learn from their mistakes, and apply this knowledge to the changes that you're going through in your own career. Most people are more than happy to share what they have learned. The experience is sure to be enlightening and you will be making a friend and professional contact in the process.

Career Transition Coach Or Bio Career Job? Tips To Identify the Best Option

The career transition coach jobs and bio career jobs are two absolutely different careers in two completely different subjects. These two jobs convene when you suddenly realize that you are trapped in a bio or medical job and feel unsatisfied with what you are doing. If you do not get pleasure in your current job or just can't simply find yourself loving what you are doing, then the odds are you are experiencing a mid-career crisis. You are probably one of those people pondering the idea of shifting their line of business, entering a new organization, or establishing a new career but are still confused of whether taking that step or not. When you think about the drawbacks of leaving your present job prevail over the drawbacks of staying in your present job then if that is the case, it is probably the time to approach a career transition coach for help.

Instead of wasting time and effort on the wrong job, wouldn't it be better to seek advice from a career transition coach now than prolong the agony of working in a job you are not contented with? It is not very odd to shift jobs. People make errors throughout their life; one of them could be in choosing careers. There are people who, in fact, didn't think much about careers nor how a specific job will work out for them. Perhaps they didn't realize the significance until they are in the job, bored, stressed, tired and wondering why they ended up there in the first place.

Many people seek the help of both career transition coach and bio career job simultaneously. Medical practitioners and those who have careers in bio fields are like any other person in another profession. Sometimes, they feel like wanting to break free from their present occupations and seek the job perfect for them. It is not always the career itself that is at fault; sometimes it is only a matter of changing the job description. There are people in the medical field who have stayed in their present career for years and years but then realized that it no longer gives them the sense of satisfaction it once provided them. One can think of many reasons for this. That is why it is recommended for one to get a coach to give him the proper career counseling.

Therefore, career transition coach and bio career job join hand-in-hand to help those who are in the maelstrom of confusion. Some career transition coaches are dedicated to helping clients who are presently in the medical and bio field. If you are seeking a totally different career path, then this career transition coach will help you discern the best path that you can take. Usually, they will point you to the occupation that you will really appreciate and will truly cherish for the rest of your professional life. Who wouldn't want that? Start acting now! Search for Bio Career Job and Career Transition Coach to locate the coaches concentrating in the sphere of your interest.

Consider a career coach?

My wife and I are sitting in a small coffee shop overlooking Waikiki Beach, as the young woman who we need is a little complaining about his choice of careers. I take it that you do not like to be a barista coffee!

So, how are you doing with your career?

Your career is important to you? Wanna be real high flyer in your chosen field, or you are satisfied with mediocre fits comfortably? If you want to develop an exceptional career you need to put effort into it. Not only in their daily work, but the development of your career. You must ask yourself this question-you have a vision for where you want your career in the 1920s? How about ten years? Or maybe just five years?

If the answers to these questions is no, then are lacking in vision. This lack of vision could cost dearly in the long term.

You need to aim your career so that your life pans out the way you want to. Your career has a central role in your life. It is gains that accrue through your career that allow your life to live the way you want. Is true to say that money can't buy you love, but you can buy you safety, comfort and a great big house!

There is no need for a ten-year plan for the Middle, but you need that kind of vision if you want to be exceptional. The trouble is that it can be all too easy to get caught up in life's daily struggles to keep an eye on the future, yet it is the future that our eyes should be fixed on if we are to make it a successful life.

Career coaches give you focus and drive to achieve greatness in your career. They are an essential part of life for many of the most successful individuals in industry and trade.

A career coach can help you secure your vision; help cement the place in your mind and be a constant reminder of what you're working for and against. A career coach can make a difference to your career.

This is more true when it comes to a crossroads of important career as when you're trying to secure a new job with another company; or when your career is in trouble when things like a strike of dismissal.

Career coaches have the experience to know that the best move of his career is not always to follow the trail of money, then, can lead to a highly stressful job. Ultimately the goal with any career is to earn more than you thought possible. This is true in the long term, but doesn't always pay to hold this view in the short term.

At the beginning of your career move is often quite intelligent horizontal vertical. Career coaches will be able to help you focus on collecting skills and previous experience in your career so that as you progress in your career you're able to secure high-profile positions that will eventually, thanks to your years of professional experience.

A horizontal move is contrary to intuitive for most of us, and that is a career coach would be a great idea. That will help you to see every move as part of a broader strategy to get where you want to be, not only forward next month, but at the end of your career years down the road.

So often we can't see the bigger picture, a career coach specialized in focus is on the bigger picture and helping you plan to get there.

A career coach can help you even when you are faced with redundancy. This can be a difficult time for career-minded among us. It can be easy at this point to the poor economy to get discouraged and lose the momentum in our career. A career coach can help us take the most damning of negative influences and create a positive strategy to help move your career in a desired direction.

Career coaches will not be dismissed as a crisis, but as an opportunity for change, for growth and development. This type of input in your life at a crucial moment is essential and cannot be overestimated.

A career coach helps transform the mediocre career in exceptional career. This is all part of their offerings and as such is worth considering hiring a career coach to work through your dreams/career aspirations and to help set a realistic vision and a plan to help you get there.

This is what we do, we work with people like you, and the guy sitting across the aisle from you, to identify what the next move would be best for your career. Hopefully this post has helped to better identify what a career coach can do for you when the time is right for you the critical decisions about your career as well as your financial future.

Need a Career Coach? 10 Ways a Career Coach Can Help You

The word coaching is synonymous with sports teams. A coach can help athletes to develop the mindset to achieve, to set and achieve goals that to many people seem insurmountable, but with focus and clarity, can be met or exceeded. They can help a sportsperson to reach their full potential by planning structured training programmes, providing feedback on performance, and helping them to become more effective.

However, coaching has become more prevalent in other areas. Life coaching has developed significantly over the last few years, with many coaches specialising in niche areas such as health, financial and career coaching to name a few.

To concentrate on the rising demand for employing a career coach, why should you choose a coach to help you to progress in your career?

A career coach will help you in many ways. Like in the description of a sports coach above, they will help you to develop and reach your potential, be successful and achieve results. A career coach will normally work with you on a one-to-one basis and will often offer group workshops, teleseminars and e-books to support you to progress in your career.

A career coach can help you in the following areas:

Career exploration and discovery

You may be unhappy or dissatisfied in your job and feel that there is something else out there, but are not sure what it is. A career coach can help you to discover what is important to you in your job and make sure that it uses your talents, skills, and strengths, and provides you with the reward you deserve.

Understand your strengths and weaknesses

A career coach will help you to develop an insight into your strengths and weaknesses. This will allow you to understand yourself better and support any decisions you make in your career. It will highlight areas you may not have considered before and you can address any weaknesses that may be holding you back or use them to your advantage.

Develop your career vision and design your career

A career coach can help you to structure a plan to progress your career. By helping you to understand your skills and abilities, they can help you to plan your ideal job and how you are going to get there.

Develop confidence in your own ability

You may have a plan for your future, but you may be consciously or subconsciously holding yourself back. A career coach can help you to develop greater confidence in your ability as well as providing you with the support and motivation to help you to achieve your goal.

Provide job search support

A career coach can help you during all stages of your job search. From helping you to develop your CV, to finding the ideal job and then succeeding at the interview, a career coach will support you every step of the way.

Help you to get ready for promotion

You don't need to want to change your career to benefit from employing a career coach. They can help you to get ready for promotion, plan for the next step in your career, and support you to develop your talents.

Support you in the workplace

If you are unhappy at work, there may be many reasons why this may be so. A career coach can also help you to deal with difficult situations or people and become more assertive. You can increase your profile at work, build better relationships and improve your own personal effectiveness.

Make sure that your goals are congruent with other parts of your life

A career does not exist on its own and is part of your overall life. It is important that a career coach makes sure that your career goals fit in well with other parts of your life. For example, if work/life balance is essential for you, they will ensure that you consider this when planning or progressing your career.

Provide you with greater self awareness

Some career coaches will use psychometric tests or other techniques that will help you to develop a greater self awareness of yourself. A greater self awareness will help you to understand yourself better, build stronger relationships, and communicate more effectively.

Support you every step of the way

Like other coaches, career coaches will support you every step of the way.

Their role is to:

- Challenge you and ensure that you commit to making the changes you desire.

- Hold you accountable to the actions you want to take. You will need to report on your results, which means that as well as being accountable to yourself, you need to demonstrate what you have achieved to your coach.

- Question you and challenge your ideas and thoughts.

- Listen to you without any agenda for themselves, which gives you a chance to come up with your own solutions which are right for you.

- Celebrate your successes and recognise when you have overcome difficulties or challenges.

- Keep you motivated even when the going gets tough!
